I’ll never forget the first time that I took Joelle to ride the Titan at Six Flags up in Dallas. And I was really wanting to ride that, and I really wanted her to go with me. She was only ten years old at the time. And I remember how I guilted her and how I coerced her onto that rollercoaster, which I’m told, is either the tallest or at least among the tallest in our country. It’s an intimidating roller coaster. And I all but threatened her to an inch of her life to get on that roller coaster with me, and finally she does.
They strapped us in, and we started up and it took forever! Clack, clack, clack, clack, clack. Going to the top of that hill. And when you get up there you literally see ALL of Dallas. I mean you’re that far up! And I look up at little Joelle and I can tell there’s panic in her eyes. And if she could climb off of this thing right then she would. And she was afraid. I could look in her eyes and tell she was deathly afraid. And I felt terrible. I felt horrible that I had guilted her on this thing. In fact, I was afraid !
And then we get over on the top and we’re coming down that first hill. And I realize that that thing is so high and we’re going to be going so fast that this thing goes underground before it comes back up again! And I mean she is clutching my arm. In fact, it hurts a little bit, ‘cause she is grabbing on to my arm so much. And I’m clutching that thing. And finally we go through this ride and it moves so fast it has to literally come to a stop in the middle of the ride and before you go on again because it’s just moving too fast. And we get to the end of that ride and I look over at Joelle and she looks up at me. And I don’t know what she’s going to say. And she says, “Can we do it again, Daddy?”
Some of you have lived through that experience in your life. Some of you didn’t have the answers, and you were afraid, and you didn’t know what the future held for you. But you trusted your heavenly Father. And every time that God brings you through every adversity in life, inside of you, you’re ready to do it -- one more time -- if God will go with you.
Trust Him in your adversities, and in your disappointments, and in your fear.
