WHY DO I NEED TO KNOW THAT?

A Roman Context

  1. 910..Dramatic Action. 40 Days after passover to get to Sina. Ten days late. Jesus died passover, 40 days, three thousand executed, three thousand saved!!
  2. Mark 15.23 offered him wine mixed with myrrh but he would not drink it. WHY?
  3. In Roman context this is an eyebrow raiser.
  4. Pay tribute with Tribute Coin. Caesar is god.
  5. Image of God? See Genesis 1.
  6. Triumph 54AD. When gospel of Mark was written...
  7. Imagine we are in a house church at that time.
  8. John Mark wrote a letter. Jesus crucifixion seems to be presented as A Triumph in terms of what Mark wrote and its order.
  9. Messenger shows up with scroll from John Mark, Peter's record of Jesus story. Last chapter? The execution sounds like a Triumph!
  10. 2 Cor 2.14 triumphal procession
  11. Journal of NT studies about this. Many more details! Thomas E Schmidt
